Manipulated Memory
I have a pretty poor memory, so I often dig out old photos. While flipping through an old family album, I came across unfamiliar pictures. Photos of me as a child with the Eiffel Tower. But I’ve never been to Paris. Looking at the pictures next to it, I realized it was a fake Eiffel Tower. Me with typical poses in front of scaled-down fake buildings. The person in the photo is undoubtedly me, but I have no memory of that. How can I believe that this is real? Suddenly I wondered whether everyone has at least one such photo in their family album. These photos, these memories — don’t they feel somewhat familiar to someone else’s memories as well? So I changed all the faces using AI. Fake faces in front of fake buildings. I recently asked my father where this place was. He jokingly answered, “You were in Paris, don’t you remember?”
